Message from the Chairman

To achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, business companies need to introduce and spread decarbonization innovations. The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has been working on developing and disseminating a consistent, reliable, and fair evaluation method and database. It is motivated by our idea that the visualization of GHG emissions along the life cycle and value chain can play a vital role in realizing innovation.

With the aid of industries’ participants, visualization has been progressing mainly among large companies in the manufacturing industry. However, the concept has yet to spread to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and financial institutions.

We believe that it is necessary to promote a broader understanding of appropriate evaluation methods and support evaluation to develop products towards decarbonized innovation and promote businesses’ sustainable management.

From the above, we have established a consortium to promote the spread of decarbonized innovation, gaining a broader understanding of visualization in the manufacturing industry and the financial sector that supports the manufacturing industry. Also, we aim to engage in dialogue with society as a whole on appropriate methods of visualization and their evaluation, thereby promoting the realization of a sustainable society.
